• Components required to control the electrical operation of the lamp(s). Control gear may also include means for transforming the supply voltage, correcting the power factor and, either alone or in combination with a starting device, provide the necessary conditions for starting the lamp.

Control gear that is low or medium voltage is generally used in industrial applications where electrical equipment – particularly electric motors – needs to be protected from earth faults, surges and short circuits. It also provides simple control functions such as stop/start and building up motor speed.
